The requests for mortgages and subrogation by Italian families are growing, but not as much as before. In fact, according to data from the CRIF barometer, Italian families who officially applied for home financing grew by 1.8%, a positive figure, but one that represents a slowdown if we consider that January 2016 had seen a strong increase in queries. This is still a positive figure, however, especially if we look at the statistics from 2010, when the crisis was beginning to make its effects felt on the power, and the, will to purchase of Italians.
There was also a slight increase in the average amount of mortgages requested. We are talking about an average request of €121,193, with an average growth of 0.9%, a figure that, however, relates to 2016, the year in which the lowest amount in seven years was recorded. The average request fits perfectly in the most sought after range of Italians, who prefer with 29.1% the range between 100,001-150,000€, followed by those up to 75,000€ with 28.7%. The 75,001-100,000€ (19.8%) and 151,000-300,000€ (19.6%) brackets are almost equal, while those over 300,000€ are at 2.8%.
Still on the bands, the one most requested for the duration of the mortgage is the one between 16 and 20 years with 23.8% of choices, followed closely by the four-year olds 21-25 (21.1%) and 26-30 (20.0%), while only 32% of the market expects to pay off the debt in less than 15 years. On the age group here is another confirmation of how young people are stopped by the crisis. Only one under 30 out of four is asking for a mortgage, while 60% of borrowers are between 35 and 54 years old. The remaining 8% are over55.
